This event is at capacity, and unfortunately closed to new volunteer sign ups. If you are interested in volunteering for MLK Day of Service in the Tacoma area, please consider these similar options to get outside and volunteer on Monday, January 21st:
- Volunteer with Metro Parks in several locations around Tacoma
- Volunteer at Whittier Park with Pierce Conservation District
- Volunteer at Powell Creek Protected Area with the Nisqually Land Trust
In addition, if you would like to volunteer on Saturday, January 19th, you could volunteer with EarthCorps at Rhone-Poulenc Salt Marsh.
In memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, we invite you to observe MLK Day as a “day on, not a day off” by improving your Tacoma community and helping to improve its vital natural areas. We will be out at the Place of Circling Waters, one of the Port of Tacoma’s wetland restoration projects, planting native trees and shrubs. This will improve the natural habitat and ecological functions of this ecologically important site that will benefit the greater Tacoma community.
This unique location, which boasts an intertidal marsh, the salmon-bearing Hylebos Creek, and forested open space, serves a vital role in the health of many of our beloved Pacific Northwest species, including birds, salmon, and our resident orcas. This ecological gem has been reclaimed from a former mining site and dump, and you can be part of restoring this important habitat by planting native species!
Everyone can help! All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary. We provide all of the tools and training needed. So bring along your friends and family and get your hands dirty!
