SUMMARY:Forest Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \nWith Ajahn Kovilo and Ajahn Nisabho\, from Clear Mountain Monastery. \nThis will be our 3rd year collaborating with Clear Mountain and it is met with huge excitement over the newly acquired home site for Clear Mountain Monastery\, which is located in North Bend. To all of you who had to reschedule the time and place from July at Hazel Wolf Wetlands Preserve to this new time on September 6th\, 12:30 – 2:00\, thank you for making the change. \nForterra NW had been working closely with Ajahn Kovilo and Ajahn Nisabho to find a new home that will provide a landscape of forest and trails ideally suited for gathering and meditation practice.  This new 90-acre North Bend location is a perfect fit and we will be celebrating our first Forterra Nature Discovery there in September. This landscape holds a variety of habitats including wetlands and dense forest that is home to fish bearing streams\, elk and all sorts of other wildlife. Join us for this meditative\,  deep nature experience and celebration of a new home. \nWhy Forest Meditation? The Buddha was born under a tree\, attained Enlightenment under a tree\, lived and practiced under trees\, and passed away under a tree. From those earliest days through the entire course of Buddhist history native forests and wilderness preserves played a vital part in nurturing the spiritual lives of sincere and ardent practitioners intent on understanding the truth of “the way things are.”  Let’s see what we can learn from sitting together.

SUMMARY:Forest Thinning
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \nThe Swamp Lake area is just east of Snoqualmie Pass. It was home to unnaturally dense forests with low biodiversity and low resistance to fire\, but today it is a place where wise tree thinning and replanting are restoring wildlife populations and boosting fire resilience. With a more natural landscape\, animals such as elk\, bear and deer are returning. Join naturalist Gary Mozel for a moderate hike and see for yourself what ecological forest management looks like. You’ll meet a great diversity of plants\, see what we’ve learned about returning animals\, and discover how this site helps larger efforts to restore forests east of the Cascade Crest. \nAbout Swamp Lake.  \nSwamp Lake is a marshy area surrounded by forest at about 2\,400 feet elevation. It lies in an area where eastside and westside forests mingle freely\, where cedars and pines are neighbors. Forterra\, working with various partners\, acquired the site in 2006 and then embarked on a restoration effort that is seeing good results while still being a work in progress. This is your chance to see an example of how Forterra works with partners to find and enhance landscapes that can thrive and endure under our stewardship. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Wild Women Walk
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \nThis women-only event celebrates the season with a walk through a wintery Northwest landscape. Bundle up and get out there to discover that the forest and all its inhabitants are still there. The frost moon or long night moon\, is remarkable and historically marks a time of reflection and renewal. If we find an appropriate location\, we may gather around a fire. Bring warm drinks and some stories to share. \nAbout Morse Wildlife Preserve\nMorse is over 90 acres of forest\, prairie and wetland landscape that provides habitat for all sorts of plants and animals\, including: black tailed deer\, Roosevelt elk\, bobcat\, thatcher ants and countless migratory birds in the spring. This land-story begins with the owners and private partners recognizing the value of conservation and ultimately working with Forterra to hold and steward the property. Over time\, Forterra developed partnerships with the Bird Alliance and the Morse Force. These community and regional organizations provide the weekly stewardship\, restoration and study particular to this landscape. A gem of a landscape\, Morse Wildlife Preserve is a perfect example of donors\, community and vision of nature and people thriving together. \n  \n  \n
