SUMMARY:2026 Spring Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra’s Spring Fundraiser\n“When the Trees Speak: Listening\, Learning\, and Acting for the Land We Love”\nwith author\, Lynda Mapes \n  \nFor more than 36 years\, Forterra has met the evolving needs of our Pacific Northwest region through passion\, persistence\, and partnerships. \nThrough it all\, the connections between people and place remain constant. From wildlands to working forests\, from salmon streams to city greenspace\, we secure the property and community spaces that keep conservation and community rooted for the long term. \nWe’re proud to announce that our speaker at this year’s fundraiser is someone who understands deeply the importance of this work\, author and journalist\, Lynda V. Mapes. \nWith 27 years as a reporter at The Seattle Times\, and author of several books on the environment – including the recent “The Trees Are Speaking: Dispatches from the Salmon Forests” – Lynda has helped our region listen to its forests\, waters\, and peoples. \nJoin us for an evening of dinner and conversation with a talk that promises to be a fascinating exploration of what binds tree to stream\, salmon to soil\, people to place\, and us to one another. \nWith special thanks to Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines for returning as our champion sponsor. \nEvent date\n5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, Wednesday\, March 11\, 2026 \nLocation\nFremont Foundry\n154 N 35th St\nSeattle\, WA 98103 \nRegistration is now open

SUMMARY:Forterra Fridays: March 2026
DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra Fridays: March 2026 \nFriday\, Mar. 20\, 2026\, 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm \nWe’re excited to invite you to volunteer with us at Crestview Park\, a beloved community gathering space in Tukwila featuring dog play areas\, trails\, and natural landscapes. Join us on March 20\, from 1:00-3:30 PM\, to restore essential habitat by removing ivy and Himalayan blackberries that threaten our local native trees\, shrubs\, and groundcover. Established native plants benefit local wildlife\, improve water quality\, and enhance air quality.  \nYou will also gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk of the site and have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants\, restoration\, and habitat management.  \nWhat we are doing: Crestview Park provides critical habitat restoration opportunities alongside its popular amenities. By removing invasive ivy and blackberries\, we ensure that native plants can thrive\, supporting the park’s ecological health while maintaining the community spaces that make this park so valued by Tukwila residents.  \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the weather (in layers to stay warm/dry). Snacks\, drinks\, tools\, and gloves will all be provided. \nWhere to park: Park in the Crestview Park parking lot (16200 42nd Avenue South). Signs direct you from the parking lot to where we will meet.\n \nDate and Time: Friday\, March 20\, 2026\, 1:00 –3:30 PM  \nRegister and learn more here.

SUMMARY:Forterra Nature Discovery: Spring’s Return
DESCRIPTION:Join Dan Corcoran of the Wilderness Awareness School and Forterra as we wander Hazel Wolf Wetlands Preserve and witness the coming of spring. Flowering plants and buzzing insects will be waking up and migratory birds will be arriving at this remarkably pristine wetland. Learn about mature second growth forest and the animals that depend on them. Along with brushing up on your naturalist skills\, you’ll learn new routines for connecting with nature. Shake off winter\, get outside and kick off your adventurous season in nature. \nAbout the Wilderness Awareness School: \nForterra’s Nature Discovery program is thrilled to partner with the Wilderness Awareness School as we experience nature and discover our connection to these beautiful Northwest landscapes. The non-profit school was founded in 1983 and is internationally recognized leader in outdoor education. Discover more about the school here: https://wildernessawareness.org \nAbout Forterra and Hazel Wolf Wetlands Preserve: \nHidden in this beautiful\, marshy landscape is a story of how Forterra\, conserves forests and ecologically critical lands across Washington. A vital link in the Sammamish plateau watershed\, this 116-acre preserve is rich in migrating bird habitat and all sorts of wildlife\, while providing serious flood mitigation for the surrounding community. For this preserve\, Forterra partnered with King County and neighboring businesses in creative ways to demonstrate how conservation and economic growth can lead to sustainable outcomes. \nHazel Wolf (1898 – 2000) an activist and environmentalist\,  is an inspiration for this work and the namesake of the property. Her rabble-rousing determination is shared by all the supporters\, monthly donors and volunteers that keep this critical work alive.
