SUMMARY:Forterra Nature Discovery: Spring Discoveries
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \nDiscover the abundance of plant and wildlife at Morse Wildlife Preserve waking up from its wintry slumber as we explore prairie\, wetland and upland forest trails. Licia Sahagun and Ryan Johnson of Firecraft NW are naturalists and educators that unveil many of the hidden inhabitants found in this beautiful landscape. We’ll listen and attempt to identify the many birds that have recently migrated from California and Mexico. Along the way we’ll look for animal tracks and tune-in to the wild drama that plays out here every day. It’s time to get excited about the new season of Forterra Nature Discovery. Join us. \nAbout Morse Wildlife Preserve \nMorse is over 90 acres of forest\, prairie and wetland landscape that provides habitat for all sorts of plants and animals\, including: black tailed deer\, Roosevelt elk\, bobcat\, thatcher ants and countless migratory birds in the spring. Over time\, Forterra developed partnerships with the Bird Alliance and the Morse Force. These community and regional organizations provide the weekly stewardship\, restoration and study particular to this landscape. A gem of a landscape\, Morse Wildlife Preserve is a perfect example of donors\, community and vision of nature and people thriving together.

SUMMARY:Forterra Fridays: April 2026
DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra Fridays: April 2026 \nFriday\, Apr. 17\, 2026\, 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm \nWe’re excited to invite you to volunteer with us for a special Earth Month event at Crestview Park\, a beloved community gathering space in Tukwila featuring dog play areas\, trails\, and natural landscapes. Join us on Friday\, April 17th\, from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm\, to restore essential wildlife habitat by removing Himalayan blackberries that threaten our local native trees\, shrubs\, and groundcover. Established native plants benefit local wildlife\, improve water quality\, and enhance air quality.  \nYou will also gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk of the site and Earth Day-themed trivia and have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants\, restoration\, and the Green Tukwila Partnership and Forterra.  \nWhat we are doing: The Preserve now includes an outdoor classroom area\, the Cultural Garden\, an enhanced trail system\, and continued restoration opportunities for volunteers. We’ll be removing the blackberry to ensure the trees\, shrubs\, and groundcover plants can thrive.   It’s a great opportunity to learn about Forterra’s innovative approach to land conservation\, including its role in safeguarding the Duwamish Hill Preserve.  \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the weather (in layers to stay warm/dry). Snacks\, drinks\, tools\, and gloves will all be provided. \nWhere to park: Park in the nearby parking lot at Crestview Park. Signs direct you from the parking lot to where we will meet. \n \nDate and Time: Friday\, April 17\, 2026\, 1:00 –3:30 PM  \nRegister and learn more here.
