SUMMARY:Forterra Fridays: July 2026
DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra Fridays: July 2026 \nFriday\, Jul. 17\, 2026\, 10 am to 12 pm \nWe’re excited to invite you to volunteer with us at Lake Stickney Park\, a beautiful 24.5-acre park in Lynnwood. The park features lush wetlands\, forests\, and a serene lake that supports fish and wildlife. \nJoin us on Friday\, July 17\, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\, as we work together to restore essential habitat in this unique natural area. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about ecological restoration and contribute to preserving these valuable ecosystems. We’ll begin with a guided walk through the park’s trails to see and talk about the existing restoration work. Restoration professionals will be on-site to answer questions about plants\, restoration practices\, and conservation efforts. \nThis is a great opportunity to connect with nature\, create community\, and make a positive impact on our local environment. We look forward to seeing you there! \nWhat we are doing: We will spread mulch\, remove blackberry or ivy\, or pick up garbage (with grabbers). Let’s help native plants thrive! \nWhat to bring: Please wear long sleeves\, long pants and sturdy\, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a full water bottle. Hand tools\, gloves\, and snacks will all be provided\, but you can bring your own if you wish. Remember to bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast. \nSafety note: Remember that high heat and smoke season in Washington may be in full swing. To protect yourself\, drink plenty of water\, take frequent breaks\, and consider wearing an N95 mask while exerting yourself outside. There is limited shade at this work site and no drinking water source\, so please take the necessary precautions to have a fun time with us! \nWhere to park: The Lake Stickney Community Park Off Leash Dog Area Parking Lot off Manor Way (13521 Manor Way Lynnwood\, WA 98087) \nWhere to meet: Please meet in the woods next to the gravel OLDA parking lot. Look for the people in yellow and orange vests. \nDate and time: Friday\, July 17th\, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM \nRegister and learn more here. \n

SUMMARY:Forest Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \nWith Ajahn Kovilo and Ajahn Nisabho\, from Clear Mountain Monastery. \nThis is our 3rd year of collaborating with Clear Mountain and offering this event. From the beginning\, we have seen how slowing down and taking in nature’s sounds\, smells and visual richness is a heartfelt and grounding experience. \nDesigned for everyone\, this event will start with a slow and quiet half-mile walk leading us to an open area where the Ajahn’s will guide us in sitting meditation and a talk. We’ll complete the second half with more walking\, taking in nature the whole way. \nWhy Forest Meditation? The Buddha was born under a tree\, attained Enlightenment under a tree\, lived and practiced under trees\, and passed away under a tree. From those earliest days through the entire course of Buddhist history native forests and wilderness preserves played a vital part in nurturing the spiritual lives of sincere and ardent practitioners intent on understanding the truth of “the way things are.”  Let’s see what we can learn from sitting together. \nAbout Forterra and Hazel Wolf Wetlands Preserve:\nHidden in this beautiful\, marshy landscape is a story of how Forterra\, protects forests and ecologically critical lands across Washington. For this preserve\, we partnered with King County and neighboring businesses in creative ways to demonstrate how conservation and economic growth can lead to sustainable outcomes. \nAbout Hazel Wolf (1898 – 2000) activist and environmentalist\, is an inspiration for conservation work and the namesake of the property. Her rabble-rousing determination is shared by many of Forterra’s supporters\, monthly donors and volunteers that keep this critical work alive and growing. \n
