The park features lush wetlands\, forests\, and a serene lake that supports fish and wildlife. \nJoin us on Friday\, July 17\, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\, as we work together to restore essential habitat in this unique natural area. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about ecological restoration and contribute to preserving these valuable ecosystems. We’ll begin with a guided walk through the park’s trails to see and talk about the existing restoration work. Restoration professionals will be on-site to answer questions about plants\, restoration practices\, and conservation efforts. \nThis is a great opportunity to connect with nature\, create community\, and make a positive impact on our local environment. We look forward to seeing you there! \nWhat we are doing: We will spread mulch\, remove blackberry or ivy\, or pick up garbage (with grabbers). Let’s help native plants thrive! \nWhat to bring: Please wear long sleeves\, long pants and sturdy\, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a full water bottle. Hand tools\, gloves\, and snacks will all be provided\, but you can bring your own if you wish. Remember to bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast. \nSafety note: Remember that high heat and smoke season in Washington may be in full swing. To protect yourself\, drink plenty of water\, take frequent breaks\, and consider wearing an N95 mask while exerting yourself outside. Over 125 bird species have been observed on this property. \nJoin us on Friday\, May 15\, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm\, to restore an essential habitat. You will gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk of the site\, and an optional demonstration of how restoration professionals may apply herbicide via cut and dabbing. We’ll have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants\, restoration\, and Forterra. \nWhat we are doing: We’ll be removing invasive Himalayan and cut leaf blackberry and herb Robert south of the boardwalk in an open grassy area. \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the weather (in layers to stay cool/warm and dry). Shake off winter\, get outside and kick off your adventurous season in nature. \nAbout the Wilderness Awareness School: \nForterra’s Nature Discovery program is thrilled to partner with the Wilderness Awareness School as we experience nature and discover our connection to these beautiful Northwest landscapes. The non-profit school was founded in 1983 and is internationally recognized leader in outdoor education. DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra Fridays: March 2026 \nFriday\, Mar. 20\, 2026\, 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm \nWe’re excited to invite you to volunteer with us at Crestview Park\, a beloved community gathering space in Tukwila featuring dog play areas\, trails\, and natural landscapes. Join us on March 20\, from 1:00-3:30 PM\, to restore essential habitat by removing ivy and Himalayan blackberries that threaten our local native trees\, shrubs\, and groundcover. Established native plants benefit local wildlife\, improve water quality\, and enhance air quality.  \nYou will also gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk of the site and have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants\, restoration\, and habitat management.  \nWhat we are doing: Crestview Park provides critical habitat restoration opportunities alongside its popular amenities. By removing invasive ivy and blackberries\, we ensure that native plants can thrive\, supporting the park’s ecological health while maintaining the community spaces that make this park so valued by Tukwila residents.  \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the weather (in layers to stay warm/dry). Snacks\, drinks\, tools\, and gloves will all be provided. \nWhere to park: Park in the Crestview Park parking lot (16200 42nd Avenue South). DESCRIPTION:  \nForterra’s Spring Fundraiser\n“When the Trees Speak: Listening\, Learning\, and Acting for the Land We Love”\nwith author\, Lynda Mapes \n  \nFor more than 36 years\, Forterra has met the evolving needs of our Pacific Northwest region through passion\, persistence\, and partnerships. \nThrough it all\, the connections between people and place remain constant. From wildlands to working forests\, from salmon streams to city greenspace\, we secure the property and community spaces that keep conservation and community rooted for the long term. \nWe’re proud to announce that our speaker at this year’s fundraiser is someone who understands deeply the importance of this work\, author and journalist\, Lynda V. Join us on Friday\, Feb. 20\, from 1:00 to 3:30 PM\, to restore essential wildlife habitat by removing Himalayan blackberries that threaten our local native trees\, shrubs\, and groundcover. Established native plants benefit local wildlife\, improve water quality\, and enhance air quality. \nYou will also gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk on the site and have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants\, restoration\, the Green Tukwila Partnership\, and Forterra. \nWhat we are doing: The Preserve now includes an outdoor classroom area\, the Cultural Garden\, an enhanced trail system\, and continued restoration opportunities for volunteers. We’ll be removing the blackberry to ensure the trees\, shrubs\, and groundcovers we planted can thrive. It’s a great opportunity to learn about Forterra’s innovative approach to land conservation\, including its role in safeguarding the Duwamish Hill Preserve. \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the weather (layers to stay warm/dry). SUMMARY:Forterra Nature Discovery: Wild Women Walk  - Frost Moon
DESCRIPTION:Notice! We have had a change in venue.  \nDue to fallen trees and possible damage to the boardwalk\, we will not be meeting at Maxine G. Morse Nature Conservancy. Instead\, we will be meeting at Morse Wildlife\, a 90 acre preserve of prairie\, wetland and upland forest. It is about five miles from Maxine G. Morse. \nEvent Overview: \nThis women-only event celebrates the season with a walk through a wintery landscape. Bundle up and get out there to discover that the forest and all its inhabitants are still there. The frost moon or long night moon\, is remarkable and historically marks a time of reflection and renewal. If we find an appropriate location\, we may gather around a fire. Bring warm drinks and some stories to share. \nAbout Licia Sahagun \nShe is a founding member of Firecraft NW and has decades of environmental and sustainable development education and a master’s in environmental and natural resources. We got to see her experience and love for the outdoors recently at Morse Wildlife Preserve as we examined footprints\, listened for birds and speculated on a pile of fresh woodchips and missing tree left by a beaver.
