SUMMARY:Learn & Work Party\, Non-Native Invasive Species\, Clover Creek Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Join a group of experienced volunteers to learn about the WA categories of noxious weeds\, how they infiltrate and suppress other plants\, and how best to remove and control them. Not only does Clover Creek Reserve have Himalayan blackberry\, English ivy\, and Scotch broom\, but it also has ornamentals such as holly\, lilac\, flowering spruce\, and vinca which are challenging for habitat health and restoration. We’ll discuss these plants and then continue work on their removal. Dress for the weather\, if you have them bring gloves and tools (loppers\, hori\, shovel\, clippers)\, and bring children but leave pets at home. \nWe will meet at the intersection of 143rd and 4th Street in the Parkland area (try Clover Creek Reserve or Clover Creek-Dietrich in your app). Park on the side of the road. \nContact Rikki if you have questions at drpmcgee@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service at McCollum Park
DESCRIPTION:Join the Snohomish County Healthy Forest Project for MLK day of Service. \nMLK day of service is officially on Monday but we’re going to get an early start! We’ll be pulling English ivy which is a colonizing weed that can compete with other native plants and take over forests. We’ll also check on the new plants we planted at the Healthy Forest Day! \nMartin Luther King\, Jr. Day of Service is the only federally-recognized Day of Service\, and was declared in 1994 as “a day on\, not a day off”. On this day\, we remember Dr. King’s legacy of service\, and reflect on his and our actions for social progress. Dr. King not only championed civil rights\, but he also inspired the environmental justice movement through his concern for the urban environment. \nEveryone deserves access to healthy greenspaces. This is why the work that we do at McCollum\, and across our local parks is important. We are not just building healthy forests\, but also healthy communities and striving towards environmental justice and equity. So when you join us this Saturday\, keep in mind how you are caring for your community and keeping alive Dr. King’s legacy of service! \nAll are welcome to join and no experience is necessary\, so bring along your family and friends! All ages are welcome! SUMMARY:Help Protect New Plants at North SeaTac Park.
DESCRIPTION:Help transform a forest. North SeaTac Park is a 200+ urban oasis under the flight paths of SeaTac Airport. The trees here clean\, quiet\, and cool the air – true guardians of the community! \nWe’ll be working in a corner of the park\, under towering poplars and Douglas Fir\, that was almost completely overrun with ivy that carpeted the ground and climbed the tree trunks until we began to transform it in early 2021. During two annual Green SeaTac Days in 2021 and 2022\, volunteers have planted white pine\, grand and douglas fir\, cedar\, snowberries\, fringe cup\, salal\, flowering currant\, and more on the newly-cleared land. Now many helping hands are needed to protect these new plantings so that they can thrive. \nAt this event\, we’ll do a site tour to see how the new plantings are doing\, remove re-emerging weeds\, continue to expand the cleared area to provide even more of a buffer for the new plantings\, and apply mulch. \nAll are welcome to join and no experience is necessary\, so bring along your family and friends! All ages are welcome! \n  \nWhere: North SeaTac Park. meet here \nWhen: Sunday November 27th\, 2:30pm-4:30pm \nIf you are a volunteer under 18 and attending the event without a parent or guardian\, please print and bring this waiver signed by a parent or guardian. \nFor more information\, please contact: Noemie Maxwell noemie_maxwell@yahoo.com  or Noemie at 253-653-6028 \n
