She will engage all our senses to better understand bird behavior and habitats.  \nSight: Learn how to identify birds by their plumage\, silhouettes\, and flight patterns.\nSound: Sharpen your ear for bird calls and songs\, decoding the melodies of birds.\nTouch: Get hands-on with natural materials like feathers\, nests\, and tree bark to better understand bird habitats and behaviors.\nSmell: Explore how scent can reveal the presence of certain species or indicate changes in habitat. Learn to connect plant scents with bird habitats. \nAbout Naturalist Eileen Lambert \nShe founded and runs Des Moines Birders\, where she has co-hosted Birding by Ear and Spring and Fall Migration outings. She has led multiple bird outings in the South Sound area and beyond. Her event will be the peak season for returning migratory birds and camas bloom at Morse Wildlife Preserve.

Now embracing a life of adventure and exploration\, Karen enjoys traveling regionally and to far-flung destinations\, devoting her writing and photography interests to share her spirit of “wonderlust” and nature discovery with others. \nDuring this walk through the Preserve\, Karen will share some easy-to-learn tips for photographing wildlife and nature like a pro. She’ll cover the basics of understanding exposure to improve your photos\, reveal secrets to great photo composition\, and how you can use photography as a tool for becoming more observant while in nature. \nBring any camera you have (best would be one with adjustable exposure) if you’d like to practice together.

It’s only open to visitors a handful of days each year! \nWe’ll ramble Morse’s mostly-level trails and boardwalks\, walking perhaps 2 or 3 miles. We’ll enjoy blooming flowers\, look and listen for some of the 100+ birds that call the refuge home\, and learn about the tiny (less than one-third of an inch long!) animal that helps spread the seeds of flowers such as bleeding heart and trillium. We’ll also talk with gratitude about the people who have worked hard to save and maintain the preserve. \n\n\nSummer Saturdays walks are led by Gary Mozel\, a naturalist and professional interpreter.\nAll three Summer Saturdays events will be led by Gary Mozel\, naturalist and professional interpreter. Gary has been a naturalist for over 50 years and has worked for the Washington State Parks\, the National Park Service\, various Audubon Societies\, Smithsonian Associates and Woodland Park Zoo. SUMMARY:Partner Event: Visit Morse Wildlife Preserve for Second Sundays April-October
DESCRIPTION:Come visit the Morse Wildlife Preserve\, nearly 100 acres spanning multiple habitats open to the public every second Sunday of the month from April through October. \nCome enjoy the Oregon white oak savanna\, prairie flowers\, and a mixed lowland forest full of cedar and hemlock. Morse Wildlife Preserve is also a birding hotspot\, with a resident barn owl\, western bluebirds\, and a myriad of other species. \nYou can check them all out at the Morse Hotspot on eBird. \nThe preserve started with a donation of approximately 50 acres from Lloyd and Maxine Morse. A private party purchased another 40-plus acres and then donated that land to the Tahoma Land Conservancy (now Forterra). Forterra owns the property\, while the Tahoma Bird Alliance provides educational programming and support. The Morse Force\, a group of dedicated local volunteers\, provides essential management and maintenance support. \nMore details are at Morse Visitor Information.
