SUMMARY:Help SeaTac's Forests by Stewarding North SeaTac Park
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get some quality time outside? Then you should join the Green SeaTac Partnership and our Forest Steward Noemie Maxwell for an urban forest restoration work party at North SeaTac Park! North SeaTac Park is a 200+ urban oasis under the flight paths of SeaTac Airport. The trees here clean\, quiet\, and cool the air – true guardians of the community! \nSpend time in nature alongside your family and friends\, and experience the amazing benefits of eco-therapy! At this event\, we’ll do a site tour to see how the new plantings are doing\, remove re-emerging weeds\, and continue to expand the cleared area to provide even more of a buffer for the new plantings – and space for new ones. \nSite History:\nWe’ll be working in a corner of the park\, under towering poplars and Douglas Fir\, that was almost completely overrun with ivy that carpeted the ground and climbed the tree trunks until we began to transform it in early 2021. During two annual Green SeaTac Days in 2021 and 2022\, volunteers have planted white pine\, grand and douglas fir\, cedar\, snowberries\, fringe cup\, salal\, flowering currant\, and more on the newly-cleared land. Continuing work is needed to protect these new plantings so that they can thrive. \nAll are welcome to join and no experience is necessary\, so bring along your family and friends!  \nEvent Details:\nCLICK HERE TO SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER! \nWhere: North SeaTac park \nWhen: Sunday\, January 29th 3pm-4:30pm. \nWhere to park:There’s parking on S. 136th St. right near the meeting place. Additional parking within sight across S.136th St. by the ballfield is also usually available. If coming by bus\, the 132 stops on DMMDS near 136th. \nWhere to meet:Meet in the park at the NE corner of Des Moines Memorial Dr. S. and S. 136th St. in SeaTac. If you arrive after the event starts\, we’re about 100 – 150 yards down a dirt trail into the trees (not the paved trail). Lat/Long can be entered into Google maps: 47°28’57.1″N 122°18’45.5″W. Or call Noemie at 253-653-6028 \nWhat to bring: Wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes\, long sleeves and pants. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Hats are recommended. Rain gear may be needed. Bring gardening gloves or hand tools (clippers especially)\, if you have them. No worries if not – we’ll have some for you to use. Bring a water bottle and a snack! \nIf you are a volunteer under 18 and attending the event without a parent or guardian\, please print and bring this waiver signed by a parent or guardian. \nFor more information\, please contact Noemie Maxwell at noemie_maxwell@yahoo.com

Special attention will be given to protecting recently-planted trees Come learn some restoration basics and help out your community. This is work that really matters! \n  \nTools\, gloves\, and instruction will be provided. \nThis event is open to people of all ages and abilities. \n  \nLearn more about the Green SeaTac Partnership \nThe Green SeaTac Partnership is a collaborative effort between the Port of Seattle\, Forterra\, City of SeaTac\, community groups\, nonprofits\, schools\, businesses and hundreds of volunteers to restore and maintain our forested parks and open spaces.

SUMMARY:Sunday Stewardship at North SeaTac Park
DESCRIPTION:Help steward (take care of) North SeaTac Park. This urban oasis under the flight paths of SeaTac Airport\, have trees and plants that help provide a natural sound barrier. \nWe’ll be working in a corner of the park\, under towering poplars and Douglas Fir\, that was almost completely overrun with ivy that carpeted the ground and climbed the tree trunks until we began to transform it in early 2021. On Green SeaTac Day last fall\, volunteers planted white pine\, cedar\, snowberries\, fringe cup and more on the newly-cleared land here. \nAt this event\, we’ll continue to expand the cleared zone into adjoining areas and perhaps turn our attention to removing ivy from the trunks and around the base of nearby trees. \n  \nTools\, gloves\, and instruction will be provided. \nThis event is open to people of all ages and abilities. \n  \nLearn more about the Green SeaTac Partnership
