Birding for All

August 15 @ 10:30 am - 12:20 pm
A banner promoting Forterra's Nature Discovery Event.

Event Overview:

August at Morse Wildlife Preserve is rich in bird life. The wetland insects and nest sites among the 300-year-old Garry oaks make for great sighting opportunities. Eileen Lambert is an educator, naturalist and skilled birder. She will engage all our senses to better understand bird behavior and habitats.

  • Sight: Learn how to identify birds by their plumage, silhouettes, and flight patterns.
  • Sound: Sharpen your ear for bird calls and songs, decoding the melodies of birds.
  • Touch: Get hands-on with natural materials like feathers, nests, and tree bark to better understand bird habitats and behaviors.
  • Smell: Explore how scent can reveal the presence of certain species or indicate changes in habitat. Learn to connect plant scents with bird habitats.

Enjoy the day at Morse Wildlife Preserve as you learn about the wildlife and possibly spot our resident great horned owl.

About Morse Wildlife Preserve
Morse is over 90 acres of forest, prairie and wetland landscape that provides habitat for all sorts of plants and animals, including: black tailed deer, Roosevelt elk, bobcat, thatcher ants and countless migratory birds in the spring. This land-story begins with the owners and private partners recognizing the value of conservation and ultimately working with Forterra to hold and steward the property. Over time, Forterra developed partnerships with the Bird Alliance and the Morse Force. These community and regional organizations provide the weekly stewardship, restoration and study particular to this landscape. A gem of a landscape, Morse Wildlife Preserve is a perfect example of donors, community and vision of nature and people thriving together.
