Duwamish Alive! Spring 2018: Duwamish Hill Preserve

April 21, 2018, 10:00 am2:00 pm

Join dozens of volunteers and come out to the Duwamish Hill Preserve to restore this very special area adjacent to Green-Duwamish! At the Duwamish Hill Preserve we will be continuing restoration efforts by removing invasive species like Himalayan blackberry and spreading mulch to suppress weeds. This is a great way to give back to your local community, and also is an awesome opportunity to meet some new faces, to get your hands dirty, and to get outside and connect with the Green-Duwamish River!

This is one of our biggest events of the year at the Duwamish Hill Preserve, and is a great way to get involved with your community! Let’s work together to improve the health of our River and its Watershed.

About the Property: In 2001, Forterra, the City of Tukwila, and a local citizen group formed a partnership to work for the preservation of an undeveloped parcel of land on the Duwamish River. The property will be managed as a public open space preserve devoted to the interpretation of the site’s Native American cultural significance and other aspects of Duwamish River Valley natural and cultural history. The Hill is culturally significant for its association with southern Puget Sound Salish oral tradition and history, as a key location in the stories collectively known as the “Epic of the Winds.” For more information, visit the Duwamish Hill website.

Forterra is a proud partner of the Duwamish Alive Coalition, which is a collaborative effort of local communities, municipalities, non-profits and businesses within the Duwamish River Watershed to preserve and enhance habitat for people and wildlife towards improving the health of the Puget Sound.  The Coalition works to improve the ecological health of our watershed through community engagement and volunteer-based habitat restoration.

Please note that the Seattle Police Athletic Association gun range is located at 11030 E. Marginal Way S., across the street from the Duwamish Hill Preserve. The gun range is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, and gun shots can be heard from the active gun range during a visit to the Preserve. More information can be found here.
