Summer Saturdays: Morse Wild Preserve – Sold Out

June 1 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The walk at 11 am is Sold Out – Register here for the 2 pm walk >

How much natural beauty and diversity can you stand? Morse Preserve is a magical place where several habitats – fir forest, oak savanna, camas prairie, marshy streams, forested wetlands and more – crowd together to form one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse places in western Washington.

Be among the select people who will be able to visit this preserve in 2024. It’s only open to visitors a handful of days each year!

We’ll ramble Morse’s mostly-level trails and boardwalks, walking perhaps 2 or 3 miles. We’ll enjoy blooming flowers, look and listen for some of the 100+ birds that call the refuge home, and learn about the tiny (less than one-third of an inch long!) animal that helps spread the seeds of flowers such as bleeding heart and trillium. We’ll also talk with gratitude about the people who have worked hard to save and maintain the preserve.

Summer Saturdays walks are led by Gary Mozel, a naturalist and professional interpreter.

All three Summer Saturdays events will be led by Gary Mozel, naturalist and professional interpreter. Gary has been a naturalist for over 50 years and has worked for the Washington State Parks, the National Park Service, various Audubon Societies, Smithsonian Associates and Woodland Park Zoo. He has led nature walks, and tours in such far-flung places as the Olympic Mountains, coastal Alaska, eastern Oregon, tropical Australia and southern Kenya.

More than just a walk in the woods, Gary will unveil nature’s hidden inhabitants by showing us what to hear and look for. Which of the hundreds of birds are year-round residents and who is just passing through. Come learn what is special about each of the landscapes that are under Forterra’s care and the story of how they became protected for everyone to enjoy. Bring your camera, binoculars, friends and families!

Note: For the purposes of nature watching please leave your pets at home – thank you!
