Brighton Jones Seattle and Forterra, a Washington-based nonprofit, have teamed up to restore Kiddie/City Park in Des Moines. This partnership affords volunteers an active way to support healthy ecosystems and resilient communities in areas where they live, work, and play.
Forterra’s dedicated volunteer helps to steward Kiddie/City Park year-round, while Brighton Jones is providing extra support throughout 2022 to restore the park. The first restoration event is Tuesday, April 26.
Kiddie/City Park is home to an important wetland habitat. It contains large growth trees and native plants that are dominated by invasive species. A team of Forterra volunteers recently planted native trees in the area. Brighton Jones volunteers will assist in the ongoing restoration of the park by removing invasive species, mulching, and planting shrubs and groundcover plants.
Brighton Jones is committed to helping its clients, colleagues, and broader community live richer lives. Parks and green spaces provide direct and indirect benefits, including spurring economic activity, fostering a sense of belonging, and providing health benefits for users. By supporting Forterra’s work around equitable, green, and prosperous communities, Brighton Jones is proud to be part of the solution. This effort in Des Moines adds to Forterra’s track record of conserving more than 265,000 acres of community, habitat, and recreational land.
Prior to launching the restoration project, community members are invited to a “lunch and learn” on April 11 to learn more about Forterra and the opportunities for land stewardship.
