Community Restoration Grant Awarded to Environmental Science Center

Forterra is proud to announce that it is awarding a Community Restoration Grant to the Environmental Science Center (ESC) based out of Seahurst Park in Burien Washington.

The Environmental Science Center promotes environmental stewardship and academic achievement through science-based education. ESC plans to expand its impact with this grant funding, engaging middle school and high school students. In collaboration with the City of Burien Parks and Recreation, The Dirt Corps, and the Highline School District, ESC will engage students from Big Picture School and Innovation Heights High School in bi-monthly restoration projects and a paid internship program. Students will participate in hands-on restoration work, and educational programs designed to increase knowledge in vocational skills related to green careers and environmental stewardship.

From service-learning and restoration opportunities to scavenger hunts and community building, students will have the opportunity to get to know the plants and ecological restoration  best management practices.
