Community Restoration Grant Awarded to yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective

Forterra is proud to announce it is awarding a Community Restoration Grant to yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective in Seattle to fund ongoing restoration at Rainier Beach.

Through artmaking and ecological education, yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collectives’ goal is to create a welcoming community hub where interdisciplinary Indigenous creatives can connect with each other and the earth. yəhaw̓ see themselves as a small seed in the broader land rematriation movement and part of a long legacy of Indigenous organizing that has existed since time immemorial.

With the grant funding, yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective plans to engage at least 200 community members in restoration activities, continuing the ongoing riparian buffer enhancement along 200 feet of the bank of Mapes Creek and replace invasive species with native plants in targeted areas. yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective is intentional about engaging young people in our restoration work and fostering intergenerational connections. They also provide opportunities for personal and professional growth through collaborative partnerships with multiple community organizations and intergenerational knowledge-sharing.

With this grant, the land will continue to be regenerated through Indigenous stewardship to provide a welcoming space community healing and creativity. Congratulations yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective! We are so grateful for the work you do.
