Forterra is proud to support Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group with a Community Restoration Grant.
With the funding, Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group will restore part of the riparian buffer along Springbrook Creek Trail, which cuts through a hard-working industrial valley between I-5 and SR-167, a 2.3-mile ribbon of green in an area dominated by concrete and traffic. The creek itself is listed by the state for violations in dissolved oxygen, fecal coliform, and overall biological health.
But what makes this project special is that it’s restoration work with the community, specifically with the next generation at the center. Youth from Unleash the Brilliance (UTB) — a South King County organization focused on getting high school students outside, skilled up, and connected to green career paths — will be on the ground gaining hands-on training as part of the project.
Mid Sound Fisheries will also collaborate with the City of Renton, King County Drainage District #1, and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local communities in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon. This next phase is exactly the kind of youth-oriented programming we’re proud to support
Congratulations to Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group! We are so grateful for the work you do.
