Forterra is proud to support EarthCorps with a Community Restoration Grant for their upcoming work in partnership with the Port of Everett at Union Slough.
Union Slough is situated at the intersection of suburban neighborhoods and Everett’s working waterfront. This site provides a vital buffer between industrial land and the Puget Sound nearshore system, offering a “low-barrier” connection to nature.
The project’s technical fieldwork will be led by EarthCorps’ young adult crew members (ages 18–29). Professional crew workdays will prepare the site for two community volunteer events that engage residents and high school students in hands-on restoration activities such as mulching, planting, and maintenance.
What makes this project truly impactful is how it invests in the people behind the work. This grant supports the Green Stewards Program, which provides paid internships to high school students of color. By offering a paid internship, EarthCorps is removing financial barriers and bridging the gap between classroom curiosity and a professional career path. The Green Stewards gain mentorship and technical skills on-site, ensuring that as the land is restored, the next generation of environmental leaders is being cultivated right alongside it.
