Puget Sound Estuarium fosters learning opportunities that inspire people of all ages to connect with, protect, and enjoy the unique estuary environment of Puget Sound.
In collaboration with Olympia Ecosystems, the Estuarium’s efforts will focus on adding an educational riparian restoration component to their “On the Water” program for North Thurston Public Schools District’s high schools. During On the Water, Puget Sound Estuarium engages more than 600 students in various environmental education stations with marine biodiversity, water quality, food webs, human impacts, and navigation. With the additional grant funding, the Estuarium and Olympia Ecosystems also will be able to engage high school students in riparian restoration – teaching them how the restoration work done on land ties to what they see in the water. More than 50% of the students who participate in On the Water are students of color and nearly 50% are on free or reduced lunch.Â
Congratulations to Puget Sound Estuarium! We are so grateful for the work you do.
